    Pre-helmet days. Now there are face guards, sliding pads, leg and elbow protectors. Goodness -- it's a wonder we even survived.

      I know...they sometimes look like helmets with feet (know what I mean?). When I think of all the safety features we didn't have, our survival surprises me, too!
